Julie Brixie(D) Meridian Township Treasurer
Welcome

20% Salary Cut

"Difficult economic times require local governments to make changes. I reduced the Treasurer salary by 20%.  I will perform the duties of the Treasurer in less time, thereby saving taxpayer dollars without sacrificing services to the residents of Meridian Township.

Julie Brixie (
Democrat)

My Plan
The Treasurer's office has gone through a lot of changes over the last 15 years.  The increasing efficiency of the tax collection process, as well as software upgrades and internal restructuring at the Treasurer's office have made it possible to perform tasks in less time.

Under my plan, the hours and salary of the Treasurer have been reduced by 20%, which will result in over $15,000 per year or over $50,000 during my term of office.
During my 8 years on the Township Board, I have always looked for ways to make government more efficient and effective.  I will perform the duties of the Treasurer in less time, thereby saving taxpayer dollars and making Meridian Government smaller and more efficient.

Under my plan there are no changes to services provided to the public.  The Treasurer's office is  open 5 days per week from 8am-5pm.

Honesty.
             Integrity.
                          Experience.

Responsibility for Salary Changes
You may wonder, who is responsible for elected officials salary changes? Meridian Township has an Elected Officials Compensation Commission.  They are charged with setting the salaries and compensation of all the Township's Boards and Commissions.  The Elected Official Compensation Commission met in spring of 2009  and recommended making my suggested change. I appeared before the elected officials compensation commission and asked them in writing to reduce the salary of the Treasurer.  This is the legal procedure for the salary reduction to occur.
