LGBTQ+ Equality in Michigan

On March 7, 1972, the East Lansing City Council adopted our nation's first nondiscrimination ordinance.

The modest personnel rule became a national landmark in the history of gay and lesbian rights.

The LGBTQ community should be treated equally under the law.

I was very glad to see the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples by both the Due Process Clause and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

As a state representative, I will do everything I can to amend the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to provide for equal rights. These reforms are so long overdue that I’m embarrassed for our state.
